Enduring Design

Writer's picture: LuthiferLuthifer

This week I spent some time (probably too much time!) overhauling the drivetrain in my lathe, an old Austrian Emco. I bought this lathe/mill 46 years ago, and haven't done any maintenance on it, to speak of. The condition of everything is amazingly good, and I am in awe of such a robust, enduring design. That's what is driving the design of my preamps; a desire to make truly durable goods in a time where everything seems to have a five year (or less) lifespan. I hope that 46 years from now, you can pick up a bass with an Underhill preamp, put a fresh battery in, and, "Hey, this thing works perfectly!" Like the VW Beetle in Woody Allen's "Sleeper".

Now to make a ton of Pot Nuts, and eventually bridges...
