This week I am working on the variable Q filter, which will have a trimmer (or external pot) to vary the Q between a flat response and about 10-12 dB. This was the filter I built for beta test units (pictured below). I need to "productize" the new design, and make it modular to plug into the PD preamps. Then there will be a few weeks of testing and tweaking before release.
For me, basic controls stand the test of time and work in a live mix, and having the option to switch quickly to a low noise clean signal for outboard eq seems to work really well, so I will likely provide a trimmer to pre-set the Q level to taste, and then you can decide whether to have the basic four knobs, and maybe add a bypass switch or switches. If you want to go crazy and have a six knob setup with Q pots, I'll have an option for that, probably in lieu of the bypass switches. Warning: Q pots add a stratospherically huge number of possible settings, and repeatability becomes problematic!
Stay tuned, and feel free to give me feedback on what you would like to see. -Tim
